Mikhail S.
At first everyone was afraid of me: I rushed to a person like a shot, bit, pinched, scratched and just as quickly disappeared. I looked at adults awry and misgiving, huddling myself up in a corner.
I moved to The Domik in 2015, when I was 15. I have Down’s syndrome. I’m a short in height, but a very serious and businesslike guy. Now everyone lovingly calls me Mikhal Mikhalych. But it wasn’t always like that. Now everything has changed: I started trusting people, opened up for them. Of course, my character is complicated – I take offence, I sulk on the most trivial pretext.
I’m warming up for a long time and strike. The teachers say I am of a sensitive nature. Perhaps that’s why I love music, especially live music. I strum on different instruments and enjoy dancing. My favorite instrument is guitar! I can spend hours listening to fingerpicking of strings and thinking my own thoughts.
I’ve learned a lot lately: to eat and drink accurately, to get dressed, make my bed, brush my teeth, wash my hands and a lot of other necessary skills that I can use without assistance now! For example, I can help our adults about the house and cook. We often gather together with our friendly company and cook together. Another of my favorite household chores is washing. I’m so glad that I am the one from our group who they trust doing this.
I’ve also learnt to play with different objects, listen to the sounds of nature, became interested in devices, started learning the sign language. It gives me an opportunity to talk about things that make me excited or inspire me that much. I’m good at it!
In communication with strangers I am still cautious, but always ready for new acquaintances and rich experience.
