Leon V.
Sometimes I remind my past life, my home, my grandpa and grandma, our summer cottage, taste of red and black currant, my only trip to the sea when I was a child… I can’t but remember the worst… At the age of 6, I was sent to a state orphanage where I fell out of the wheelchair, was picked up carelessly and as a result my collarbone was broken…
I have been living in The Domik since 2016, since I was 14. I am almost a grown and serious man now.
Despite all the hardships I love people and enjoy communicating with them. I can really discuss anything: cars, children, personal problems. I can quietly explain what I want and what I need. Our adults always get me right. Now I can move only with my hands and head, so I can just sit in my wheelchair. They used to roll me around, but now my dream has come true — I have an electric wheelchair! So much has changed now! I feel more independent and mature. I explain to our new teachers the importance of following certain rules in our place, finding compromises, listening to and hearing each other.
I also go to school. I had to go straight to the 6th grade having missed the previous 5 classes! I remember I didn’t know much then, but I was seriously determined to study. Now I communicate with my teachers on my own, enjoy attending school classes, do my homework. I have already learned reading, counting, writing at the primary school level. As for the rest of the subjects I study them along with my classmates.
Sometimes I visit meetings with my age-mates. In summer I go to camp with my tutor and come back very happy, with plenty of positive emotions and photos!
One more cherished dream of mine has come true in 2019: I went abroad, first to Germany and then to Italy! Though travelling is still hard for me, but so thrilling and exciting!
I’m so happy I can see the world around, other countries and people living there!
