Daniil K.
I was born very weak, and, having decided that I would not survive anyway, the doctors didn’t perform the operation. So I obtained the knee dislocation for the rest of my life
I live in The Domik since 2015, since I was 14. I’ve grown up now, but I look much younger than my age.
In a state orphanage, where I lived before, I was considered to be a bad case and completely hopeless. This is so strange, because I only have a DS. Oh yes, I also have a congenital knee dislocation, which is usually operated on in the first year of life. But I was born very weak, and, having decided that I would not survive anyway, the doctors didn’t perform the operation. So I obtained the knee dislocation for the rest of my life: I do have the leg, but there is no way I can step on it, because it does not go straight downwards, as it should, but upwards and a little to the side. Of course, it would be very nice if I could walk, but now it’s impossible, so I learned to live and be active with such a “special” leg.
Now I am a very active and cheerful young man. I have a habit — to wake up before the tutors come to wake me up and wait for them with a smile, looking forward to the new day to begin! I really like companies, but discrete and not very noisy, perhaps. I also like to gallantly roll into a room in my wheel-chair, take place in a corner and quietly watch what is going on at The Domik.
We have so many interesting things going on here! I also like cooking various delicious food together with other children and adults and tasting what came of it afterwards. I used to be afraid to eat outside. But one day, getting over my fear, I tried a cake in a cafe. And I liked it! Now I am very fond of visiting such establishments and trying new dishes.
I also like going out, but only not in winter: dressing up in cold weather takes so much time! And if it’s windy, my eyes begin to water, the face freezes… It’s no «fun» for me. I’d rather hurry home, to warmth and comfort.
I’m very homely: I like lying on the couch, playing with folks, cuddling with tutors, but only with the ones I know very well! I keep a watchful eye on strangers, observe and examine them for a long time. It’s not easy for me to make contact yet…
In the first year of my stay in The Domik, I often took offence at everyone. But now I realized that my friends do not intend to upset me. So if something goes wrong, I just notify about that, and I’m heard. This is so great!
